Well said. Mr. Carney showed that what he said during the election was just propaganda to get himself and the Liberals elected. Having secured a near majority, his true values are coming through. DEI as demonstrated by his cabinet, Net Zero as suggested by his ministers who enforce no pipelines running east. Lastly, he is demonstrating his autocratic tendencies by omitting a budget and signing "executive orders". Wake up Canada.
Paul. I agree people will soon see the real Mark Carney. I truly hope it will not be the version I voted against in the election, because I voted against that for many reasons.
Paul, the wake up is unlikely to happen. These 'elbows up' crowd gave Carney and the Liberals the power again. My thoughts is for our country to be completely destroyed.
This is exactly what I was expecting from Carney. Given his track record and stated beliefs, I’m surprised anyone could have expected otherwise. Carney was the lipstick on the Liberal pig to convince enough Canadians they’d be different than under Trudeau. I still don’t understand how so many Canadians were so foolish to believe them.
Very thoughtful and balanced review. The appointment of Guilbeault is disastrous, but likely unavoidable, due to the love in that his riding in Montreal has for him. I shall refer to his new title as Minister of Misinformation - I hope that my cynicism is misplaced.
Stephen Fuhr in Defence Procurement is going to be interesting to watch. Carney has called for a review of the F-35 purchase. Fuhr was solidly against purchasing the F-35. Is the fix already in?
The Canadian legal system has no way to hold politicians, government bodies, police, provincial, agencies accountable. The court systems are now used to protect the agencies and we are on our own. We don’t have any rights. We are in it dictatorship
Grand juries have been moved systematically since the 1960s especially during a P. Elliot Trudeau’s reign, they know that… we just don’t know that…. Yet
You've created a good summary here. My question is why don't you run for politics? You have a wonderful grasp on these matters. :)
Personally, I don't think Carney cares much about small business or labour or economic development. Several of these portfolios leave a lot to the imagination. I am shocked that Evan Solomon even got elected but alas, also a big role. It pays to be an ex CBC/CTV employee, apparently. I haven't got warm and fuzzy feelings with this crowd and my guess is they will get a majority by hook or by crook. A sad 4 years ahead, folks.
I think Carney's view on economic growth tracks mostly at the corporate level. If his Cabinet choices around Small Business and Labour are indicative, he may neither properly understand nor value their importance. That is worrisome as they are a fundamental backbone of our economy and employment picture.
He was a major in the Air Force. A jet jockey. His first term as MP 2015-2019 he was the invisible MP. Still not sure how he beat a very good MP in a traditional Conservative riding. I put it down to the changing demographics of Kelowna.
Some good insight in there. The gender parity bit is bit off. I didn't expect gender parity in cabinet to be representative of the House or caucus but of Canada.
Beyond ensuring a reasonable prorating of regional allocations in Cabinet, merit should be the only other defining factor. Selecting on gender against the electorate’s choice is undemocratic and discriminatory. If we flush merit in favour of ensuring Cabinet looks like the population where does it end? There is then a viable argument we must ensure Cabinet reflects a host of attributes and identities - skin colour, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, etc.
If the population wants a mirror reflection of themselves they must drive a democratic process to select them at the party level, then elect them. What Carney has done continues the equity of outcome path that is a slippery slope and the inevitable death of meritocracy. They claim to be "merit-based" while relegating it to also-ran criteria.
Academia has been playing out the identity selection game for well over a decade and it’s not leading anywhere good.
Patti. The article is not addressing outcomes, in acknowledgement that it's early days. But analyzing the structure, fair representation, makeup and leadership of our country's top federal team through data analysis and a reflection of history seems appropriate. Not sure what component of that indicates a lack of grip.

I share your sentiments.
The media helped to convince them that he would see us through and help us avoid President Trump - what a joke.

Thanks, William.

I don't know much about Fuhr but will also be watching this with considerable interest.

It’s only been a few days! Good grief …get a grip.

Because Patti likely voted for Carney.
How can you assume he is more appropriate than PP? Yes, you should have that sinking feeling about Carney.
Well I'm not an idiot and I do my research. I am not a PP supporter and if you are we have nothing more to talk about.
