Mark Carnage. Carnage is what he’d bring to the Canadian economy. Do remember that Mark Carnage has been a key economic advisor to the Trudeau government as it worked to destroy our economy over the past nine years. On the evidence, it’s been piss-poor advice. Now he wants to be in charge, as the “outsider” who will bring “change” based on the advice from his own key advisors, Katie Telford and Gerry Butts. Hey, I think I’ve seen this movie already!
In both recent interviews I've covered, he's pushing the message of "We are in a crisis. I'm a proven crisis guy. So, you need me right now to get past this crisis".
Oh boy, the fun we could have disputing all those points, including his premise that this is a crisis not of our own making.....
Nonetheless, that message will play well with a broader crowd.
Oh, and he's now downplaying his role as economic advisor as being merely a part-time job, if you watch the CBC interview.
The problem as demonstrated already in Britain is that the net zero people do not listen to reason. We are dealing with a cult of zealots and climate change is just one aspect of their religion. It is a profitable venture with all the grants that can be had. The end goal is control. Why do you think they are pushing for 15 minute cities and EVs? It’s not to save the planet that’s for certain. Britain is in the course of closing Port Talbot steelworks with the loss of many jobs but it’s in the name of net zero.
It is truly unfortunate that many voters (who chose to not get into even the easiest weeds to educate their choices) will get sucked into voting for Carnage. They will fall for the "look how smart a guy I am and who I've worked for in the past" CV and name recognition.
I found this take on Carney and cut and saved it for posts just like this. When in doubt, follow the money. Why is Emperor Carney deigning to take a pay cut from Brookfield and have to do distasteful things like talk to peasants and irritating media? It's because he is playing a longer game. Brookfield does not write policy. Politicians and PMs do just like Paul Martin rewrote part of the tax code when he was in power to benefit Barbados and (magically) his Canadian (Barbadian) Steamship Lines. Have a ponder on this analysis.
To understand Carney is to understand Brookfield, a massive, multi-billion-dollar, opaque investment conglomerate, with myriad separate but overlapping divisions, that owns and manages critical infrastructure projects, real estate and insurance all over the world. Now within the massive infrastructure portfolio you have renewables. So, your public message is to push investment into renewable energy projects. Looks nice and green and subscribes to the current ideological orthodoxy. Carney takes a UN climate position and becomes a spokesperson for saving the planet.
Now the side benefit, the intended one you don’t discuss openly, is that this green message, coming particularly from the UN, and with a position of authority to influence legislation, naturally drives business and investment AWAY from fossil fuels and resources. And what effect would that have on these assets? Well obviously, it drives their value/price down. And what does Brookfield do with these lower priced assets? It Invests in the projects (quietly) at much better valuations and makes tonnes of (hypocritical) money.
You don’t really believe Carney (Montgomery Burns incarnate) and Brookfield got mega wealthy selling solar panels to the hippies, do you? Carney will continue the exploitation of Canada, destabilizing its social fabric, all for the benefit of wealthy elites.
Hi Bob. Notwithstanding the slogan (which I personally find irritating), a simple removal of carbon tax in any form is what makes sense to me. So, yes, I do support the Conservative position - not a fancy new formulation.
More generally, this is because Net Zero doesn't compute for me and you can find my deep dive article on the topic from last year at this link.

oh how i hate being treated as an idiot
if people like carney can't do any better than this
then they are really not all that clever are they?
Mark Carney is duping us. Unfortunately, many won't bother to dig deeper on him. He will be the new 'look at how smart I am' prop.
Good article. Your exposes from the fall of 2023 were also insightful. Thank you
Zero carbon emissions and a functioning modern civilization are incompatible.
Time of debating with these people is over. Simply, need to be crushed and never let back in. Stop playing this game.

Hoping we can keep educating our fellow Canadians, one at a time if necessary.
