Well done, excellent read. I would like to hear more about the "land acknowledgement", how it came to be and what is the purpose. In Ontario, it's even shamelessly wrong as Cambridge pays homage to the Haudenoshonee, who received the land from the British Crown for services rendered during wars with the Americans.

Terry Sheehan should be praising Jagmeet Singh as the best leader since Tommy Douglas. If the NDP would not have collapsed the Conservative candidate surely would have won the seat. He only won by 271 votes in 2021.

I have several points to make based on several of your topics in this post. I'm not a loyal monarchy follower. When you say, "Just imagine how our American friends feel about to whom they pledge their allegiance these days", you are clearly talking about President Trump. Well the majority he got clearly states a lot of people believe(d) in him. Personally, we should only be pledging to our country and not to any person. I definitely am not pledging to Carney, definitely never Trudeau for his pompous ways (he thought he was king I think), or to any one else. But definitely to my country - Canada.

Land acknowledgments are pure virtue signaling but also dangerous. I do not agree with it and every school, committee, council, uses it because as you know when one does, they all have to follow because if not, just look at how it looks. When did these acknowledgements begin? Was it with Trudeau? Penance is the perfect word. The slippery slope has turned into a complete dive.

The 'elbows up' crowd are silent now. They elected the great one (their thinking), no not Wayne Gretsky, but the one who they thought would give Trump a punch in the nose. Honestly, it is all theatrics. It is like watching chest pieces being moved about on the board, ever so slowly.

As for the ostriches, you may want to read more about their story. Apparently, the birds are not sick at all and this cull order was announced back in Jan. We are now cresting the beginning of June. This is an unnecessary act and is now getting world-wide attention so hopefully CFIA will admit their over zealousness and back off. Government overreach happens in all kinds of areas.

Thanks for the comments.

Regarding the ostriches - I noted it was a heavy-handed decision brought down and agree it seems overdone and a bit sad.

Re the ostriches - it is sad and next to criminal and I hope with all the eyes on CFIA - that they will know people are watching their overreach and stop the cull order.

I'm mildly encouraged by the Liberals shift to the centre. I could care less about ripping off the Conservatives. I want the right policies for the country, and just as importantly, I want their effective implementation. We'll see.

I'm increasingly convinced that the Conservatives deserved to lose the last election. As I look back on their performance, I'm gobsmacked by the entitled thinking and the way they played nice with Trump. They truly believed the next election was theirs by default and acted as if they were a government in waiting. Because of their arrogance, they lacked flexibility, creativity and most importantly, their tolerance for risk-taking was less than zero. Everything was massaged and overly crafted and therefore staid and predictable. And the way they tried to stonewall the press. It was pathetic.

And so, we got what we got - a near-majority Liberal gov't. Carney and team deserve the opportunity to govern, and the absence of a budget is small fries. From my perspective, I'm thrilled they've shifted in the direction of the Conservatives. It might be what saves this country from itself.

Appreciate the comments.

When this government implements good policies, I will applaud them for it. When they display transparency and good governance, I will call it out. Days are indeed early so not much to judge on and I want to be encouraged by change and better days ahead, but I see some concerning things already including the lack of budget (far from small fries) and a poorly constructed Cabinet - both I've written on. I'm hoping for the best, but my expectations are highly tempered based on history and what I've so far seen. I truly hope to be surprised to the upside.

R. A. I'm not sure how you saw the Conservatives playing nice with Trump. Personally, I would rather have a leader who can take a stand but also not be combative considering of our location to the USA. Also, I am sure if we were being attacked by some country other than USA, we would be begging for Trump to send their military to rescue us.

I haven't noticed a shift to the centre. All the anti-development and anti-free speech legislation will be preserved or enacted.
