Now is time to turn the page on Justin Trudeau's... 'Diversity is our Strength'... as nothing more than a breathy oxymoronic platitude turned into a political slogan.
I am very worried that DEI is so embedded in the public service, in unions, in academia, in corporate Canada and even the military that it will be a long and difficult battle to overcome its effects. I would like it if Poilievre would put as much emphasis on re-establishing national unity as he does on ‘Axe the Tax’, because I strongly agree with you that while carbon taxes, corruption, and ethics are important to take on, most of the silent majority want the Canada we knew back. I have conversations with immigrants, not just ‘colonial settlers’ and they too want the Canada they immigrated too to return.
Looking back, Justin Trudeau was very clear about making Canada the first post-national state, but I do not recall anyone asking him what that meant in real terms.
I agree heartily with your comments, Allen. It will take a very concerted and long effort to peel back some of the social re-engineering that has occurred the past nine years, with DEI at the top of that list. The bigger challenge may be that it has now informed an entire generation of youth who know no other "reality".
As for the carbon tax focus from the Conservatives - indeed, I would like to see that message branch out and include some social issues, which they are tentatively doing. Unfortunately, as you know, any small issue is ceased on and distorted these days in the political realm with accusations of racism, misogyny and xenophobia if one pushes back on DEI, immigration, gender issues and more - although that is starting to abate. While I too would like to see other issues debated openly, the Conservatives have found economic issues to be the safe road for now. Maybe it is the correct strategy to lay low on it for now and then work internally to fix as much as possible once in office but I'd quite like to hear open discussion on these also-important matters.
Excellent writing and definitely expresses the feelings of most citizens. I am often amazed at the lack of serious thinking and short term thinking of politicians at all levels.
Ridiculous levels of immigration are causing a lot of the problems in Canada today. It is depressing to see so much hate and divisiveness.
I write often about how I believe the vast majority of Canadians are good, patriotic citizens and humans, while we tend to hear only about the negative bits. I suppose if we all do our small part in promoting the unity of Canada through small acts and personal discussions perhaps it will go some way to helping us get back our Canadian mojo. Indeed, we desperately need new leadership to set a much better tone and direction for our country - but I think it ultimately falls to us. National unity is more of a concept and feeling than an actual thing.
What a timely, excellent article! If Canadian politics can return to attracting those who truly want to serve and unite Canadians, as opposed to those who want to rule and collect a pension, the issues we could resolve would be amazing!
I'm your big fan from the US and this is ANOTHER example of what we have in common. I have had similar thoughts as yours though never able to articulate it as effectively as you always do. When I got my undergraduate degree so many years ago, I vividly recall reading the bylaws from the dorm I had been elected as President, and I was stunned how they felt it necessary to setup separate councils by each race. It seemed sad and backwards. I now work for a highly respected healthcare organization that has AGAIN done this! We are invited to join different groups by ou race where we can openly discuss DEI. We used to regard E Pluribus Unum and the societal melting pot and that is now considered discriminatory. I expect we will recover but I have been stunned how thoroughly ingrained this now is.
A great bit of feedback, Alan, thank you. I share your dismay since I grew up learning increasingly to be blind to race and other natural attributes - and rather to see the person first. I thought we were doing very well in that regard, as a whole. But it appears that activism, academia and political segmentation have turned that on its head and I simply don't believe it's in anyone's best interest, other than the small groups fomenting the cause.
An awesome and timely piece. You’ve captured what many, including me, feel but cannot put into words. Sharing this with others who also have similar thoughts. Thank you.
That DEI is now being brought into critique with several major companies stopping their DEI programming, I hope that this invasive mindset will crumble quickly.
I WILL completely get behind promoting UNITY in Canada!!! Holding onto eachother as we’ve been socially distanced becoming detached from eachother!! Homosapiens need one another!!! We are meant to be social creatures, needing one another!! God made man, Adam and then Eve using Adam’s rib!!! Adam and Eve meant to populate earth!! 🙏🏼 We need God our Father!!! Desperately…..💯 🙏🏼 🤗 ❤️🩹 💖
Well thought through and well written. Thank you.
Thank you for the kind comment, Andrew. I'm glad you enjoyed the piece.

Thank you for the comment,. Hopefully we'll turn the tide on all things Canada, soon.
Excellent article. How do we "Make Canada Unified" given that our politicians and media prefer "divide and conquer"?
Thanks for the comment, Paul.

Well written from the heart of a patriot.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. And thank you for that very kind compliment.
Once again, excellent.
Thank you, Ian.

Thank you for the generous comment, Michael. And for the sharing.
Great read and states what this Canadian feels.
